I planted a strawberry patch of about 25 plants for the first time last spring. So far, they look quite nice. I am wondering what to do with them during the winter. Should I put a mulch over them? If so, how thick? Or should I just leave them exposed to the elements? (We have below-freezing temperatures here in St. Louis in the winter.) Also, what is a good way to add organic matter to the soil? Should I leave them runners alone or should they be cut or what? Any other miscellaneous good advice about strawberries?
