Contra dancing is certainly not a political statement! This is one of
the oldest types of dancing in the country, practiced in New England for
well over 200 years now. Derived from english country dancing, contra
dances include traditional music on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, piano,
accordian, etc. in the form of jigs and reels and has a dance caller similar
to those who do square dances.

P.S. Lots of gardners in our area are avid contra dancers, having just
returned from DECUS in San Francisco it seems that there are many
avid conntra dancers out that way too.
