Subj: Norm, please send this on to USENET Another vote for hard helmets for bike riders. I was rear-ended in 1979; I was going about 15, and the car was going about 45 (it was dark, he was inebriated, and he didn't even think about slowing down until I came thru his windshield). I received a broken femur and clavicle and a cracked pelvis, but my head was undamaged (I hit the windshield headfirst). The Bell Biker I was wearing, however, was not so lucky - the foam was crushed to less than half its original thickness and the Lexan shell was SHATTERED!. This is a helmet that is rated to protect the head against a shock of 400+ gravities. I must admit that I have modified my cycling habits a trifle - I refuse to ride at night... But I do wear a Bell Biker, even for the short hop to the corner store. Looks funny, so what? I'm still here to be laughed at! - Dick Binder, DEC, Littleton, Mass.
