For those of you who care, Velo-News reports that Francesco successfully attacked Eddy Merckx's long-standing hour record in Mexico City recently. Riding a $35,000 bicycle on a cement track that had been coated with varnish to smooth it, Moser covered 50.8 kilometers in the hour, 1.4 more than the older record. Moser also broke the 5 Km and 10 Km records in the process. Incidentally, Moser also said that if Merckx had had the benefit of modern technology, he would have gone over 51 Km...

Moser did break his hour record the 23rd of January. On the 19th of Jan. he rode a little over 50kph for one hour. The next Monday, just 4 days later, he rode 51.135 kilometers in one hour.
