------------- Maybe this is a moot topic since I was the only one to say any kind words about the system (and then only for use by kids, esp. my 10 year old). Anyway my kid managed to clog the rear freewheel with rope (this is why he has a heavy massive Schwinn rather than a **good** bike), so I got a chance to take it apart. The bike is about 9 months old and has had typical abuse-- he uses it like his friends' BMXes. (I decided against buying him one of those because I wanted him to be able to move at a decent clip on the roads). Anyway, I made the following observations: 1. The derailleurs, once the caked on dirt was washed off, worked fine without readjustment (the front was sticking). No wear was noticed on any bearings. 2. I couldn't get the rear sprockets off (they need the spline tool, which I don't have), but I did take some of the sprockets off-- each one has its own rachet mechanism! Too many parts, but it was in fine shape-- no damage, even with the rope. 3. The rear axle was slightly bent. I need to replace it. 4. Wheels need to be trued, but none of the steel spokes or rims were bent. 5. Cables look fine, and seem to be standard (what is this 4 month change interval?). 6. I had to replace the saddle and retape the handlebars. 7. Front wheel, fork, and bottom bracket seem ok. Anyway the conclusion of this "test" is that the F-F system is certainly not fragile! Tom Almy
