[net.bicycle] heavy duty 10 speeds

Does anyone know anything about these 10 speeds I see that look like a cross
between a moto-cross childs bike and a 10 speed racer. I am in the market
for a new bike and would like a strong bike capable of surviving potholes
curbs and off road excursions. The bikes I have seen have 25 inch wheels
with knobs on them and caliper brakes. The frame and forks were chrome
plated and the bars had a cross brace. Are these bikes for real or are they
jokes? Any info on prices, and personal experience would be appreciated.

ps. I have worked on bikes since I was knee high to a grass hopper (I still
remember my father teaching me how to true a wheel using the spoke tension).
I have worked in bike shops from Boston to Portland ( I once built a special
bike for a member of the Portland Trailblazers). I sold my bike in 1978 and
have had little desire to pedal until now.
