On the way to work, I followed a bicyclist riding on a busy four-lane road through town. I watched him run two red lights. I watched him pass about four cars by going between two lanes of traffic - he was trying to run a third light which changed just as he got to it. He cut around the lead car and back to the right of the road. Eventually I passed him; some blocks later he caught up to me and narrowly missed riding into the side of my car because he was trying to pass on my right and run the light where I was turning right (on red - legal here, and yes, I signaled well in advance). That jerk is making it dangerous for me to bike! Yes, because he pissed off about a dozen motorists in the short space (a mile or so) that I was able to see him. What is there to be done about these clowns? I don't want to have him get a motorist so hacked off that I get run down because the guy finally gets fed up with trying to deal with bicycles and I'm the next one he encounters. This is a real issue to me - any suggestions? I have two consolations. First, he wasn't wearing a helmet, which means he may depart the bicycling scene quite suddenly and not return for a long time. Second, he was riding in an absurdly high gear - looked like he was climbing in something like 80+ inch and managing a cadence of about 30. He may not ride very much after he destroys his knees. -- ...Cerebus for dictator! Dick Dunn {hao, ucbvax, allegra}!nbires!rcd (303) 444-5710 x3086
