I'm sorry if this question has been recently asked, but I'm new to this
group.
Does anyone know of a source for elliptical front sprockets? I have
one, (if I ride with a round chainwheel for more than a mile, my knees
start screaming), but my father wants one.
I want a REAL elliptical chainwheel (mine has an height/width ratio of
~2), not one of those squarish things that that Japanese company
(Shumano?) put out. (I talked to someone in a bike-store, and he said
it was computer designed for maximum efficiency. I would be willing to
bet that they tweaked the design criteria until they had something
which looked wierd, but could still be shifted by an ordinary
derailleur.)
I think they are the best things to come along since the "safety
bicycle". I can't shift the front sprocket (except by hand if things
get desparate) but five speeds are sufficient for the riding I do.
