Although I love my Bell Tourlite, everyone who owns one should check the serial number. Some of the older ones have defective buckles which fail after a while and *SHOULD BE REPLACED*. The tongue that holds the two halves of the buckle together on the older model breaks off. If this happens, the manufacturer recommends that the helmet *NOT BE WORN* until a replacement has been installed. The affected serial numbers are: 01000-123653 362028-362118 371027-379028 In addition, some other serial numbers are affected (mine was <01000 and was defective) so the best bet is to check with your local bike shop. They should have a flyer, with pictures showing the difference between the defective and redesigned buckles. Good bike stores will give you a free replacement (like mine did). If you can't get one that way, write to: Tourlite Buckle Consumer Services Dept. Bell Helmet Inc. 15301 Shoemaker Ave. Norwalk CA 90650 Mention your serial number. There is no charge. -- Bill Jefferys 8-% Astronomy Dept, University of Texas, Austin TX 78712 (USnail) {ihnp4,kpno,ctvax}!ut-sally!utastro!bill (uucp) utastro!bill@ut-ngp (ARPANET)
