[net.bicycle] RAAM 900 number

blb@cbscc.UUCP (Ben Branch) (07/11/84)

The latest Bicycling magazine issue contains a small ad for the 1984 Race
Across America, as well as several nice articles on the subject. Of general
interest to the net is that RAAM will have a 900 (e.g. 50 cents/call) number
between August 18 or 19 and September 1st. It will have a taped 1-minute
message changed twice a day to provide updates and color commentary.
The number is 900-210-BIKE.

The field for RAAM should provide quite a challenge for Lon Haldeman. His
wife Sue Notorangelo is (according to Bicycling) assembling an all-female
crew and will ride in competition this year, as will several of last years
riders and a bunch of new riders, including a 4-time winner of the Paris-
Brest-Paris race. The qualifying field numbers 25, with (if I counted right)
four women.

The transcontinental record may fall this time as the RAAM organizers have
shortened the course by "several hundred miles". The 1983 course was about
200 miles longer than the 1982 course.

Five weeks to go!
