Oops. Seems that the world records I trumpeted yesterday aren't after all. In O'Reilly's case (1 Km), the real record is 1:02.57 (Marc Malchow, E. Ger., in Mexico City). O'Reilly's 1:03.39 is a US record. In Nitz's case, his time of 4:36.44 beats the record of 4:37.31, but the UCI has not yet certified the Colorado Springs track, so it doesn't count. Nitz gets a US record too. To make matters worse, I misreported Tour de France results. Fignon, not Anderson, is leading the contenders. He is now in third after today's race, 12 minutes back.
