Wednesday: Aspen (SORRY for being so concise -- nothing happened) MENS An Australian, Ian(?) Stewart upset Davis Phinney to win this generally uneventful stage. Stewart escaped on the last of 18 3.3 mile laps to win by several second with Davis bringing the field home. WOMENS Peggy Maas won her first ever stage in the Coors with a fine solo effort. Overall GC No major changes. Thursday: Washington Park The big news was the disqualification and suspension of race leader Alexi Grewal when he came up positive(ephedrine) in a routine dope test. He claims(and I believe him!!) that he unknowingly got the drug in an herbal tea drink. What is amazing about this is that a teamate of mine was disqualified last year at the Coors for injesting the same tea and coming up positive with the same result. To make the same mistake???? The racing at Washington Park is generally very boring. The course has only one slightly sharp turn(130 deg) and is generally considered an unnoficial rest day. MENS Phinney beat Bauer and Jeff Leslie as the field remained intact. Interestingly enough, it was the first win for Davis at Washington Park. WOMENS First year sensation Inga Thompson gave the pack the slip on the last lap to win by 6 seconds over Jeannnie Longo and Sue Novara-Reber. Overall GC Except for the exit of Alexi Grewal no major changes. PS Phyllis Hines is in about 27th place. Bruce Hildenbrand
