[net.bicycle] Chain Cleaning and Lube

Cleaning solvents: Delarosa in "The 10 Speed Bike Book" list an
additional drawback of gasoline: It dissolves some of the'permanent'
lubrication built into some chains. She recommends kerosene or
MINERAL SPIRITS. Anybody out there ever used mineral spirits for
this purpose? How'd it go?

Chain Lubrication: Same book recommends soaking in light machine oil,
Eugene Sloane's Bike Book recommends soaking in gear grease so heavy that
it has to be warmed up to liquify it. Someone recently recommended
'Dri-Slide.' Any experiences with these? or some others?
