This ride showed the leaders strengths, as 7 of the top 10 riders in the overall standings finished 1 thru 7. Fignon picked up a bit more time on Hinault, pushing his overall lead to over 10 minutes. Hinault still says he has a chance but it now seems unrealistic as both Fignon and LeMond are supported by a strong team which will try to control the final stage which finishes in Paris. The top 20 overall riders show a large number of Columbians who are the only amateur team entered in the Tour. They have done well in the mountain phases of the Tour, and now have four riders in the top 20. LeMond still may have a shot at second, and Boyer seems to have become solidly stuck into the 31st spot.
