I am replying to the statement that we are chauvanists to the net rather than by mail, in order to explain my lack of emphasizing women in my coverage of the Tour De France. First off, virtually all of the best women in the world were on THIS side of the Atlantic at the Coors Classic and preparing for the Olympics. Marriane Martin placed somewhere in the 20's at last years classic, and initiated the move that put one woman in the hospital and 100sq inches of road rash on another(yes, she showed that she has only been cycling 3 years). Anyone who witnessed the Coors Classic would agree that Connie Carpenter is the dominant woman in the world with Maria Canins and Jeannie Longo also showing some pretty classy stuff. I don't mean to take anything away from Ms. Martin's victory, just put it into proper perspective. Bruce Hildenbrand p.s.- anyone want to take bets on the Men's and Women's road races.
