[net.bicycle] TrainerTrainers &/or Rollers

.
Anybody have any experience with wind trainers/rollers? I'm considering
getting some for the winter- I don't think I'll be able to run and avoid
injury without getting an expensive pair of orthotics, and in that case
I'd rather get something for my bike anyhow. So how about it? Can I get
something that will add resistance to my rollers? Are there generic
devices that attach to them, or if I get Kreitler rollers, do I have to
get the little wind attachment from them exclusively. I noticed that
Fuji makes some rollers with a little adjustable resistance knob
and wheel on it. It seems like that would be unrealistic- resistance
should increase with speed, right? Maybe rollers are an expensive luxury
and I should just go with a wind trainer. Fellow bikers, I put the question
to the floor...

Last year I bought a cheap pair of roto rollers (at Paul's in CU). They
worked fine. Almost anyone who used them at my house managed to get a
pretty good workout in 30 minutes of hard riding in high gear. The wind
resistance of the spokes seems to be enough, although not accurate for
what you would be feeling if the wheels were spinning that fast on the road.
But then who rides for a half an hour at 35 MPH on the road anyway ? It
helps to mount a big fan in front of you because there is no natural wind
to cool you off.

I have some Al Kreitler rollers and am VERY pleased with them. I don't
have the wind attachment, so I just sweat profusely, instead.

I find I get a *great* aerobic/cardiovascular workout, but because of
the lack of resistance, my legs don't get the workout of riding outdoors
(granted, there are lots of hills outside my doors). I am still like
the workout I get, but it doesn't replace riding outdoors!

I am not a racer, so I don't think I would get a trainer. I like the
rollers for improving my riding style.
