Being somewhat new to the net, I'm unaware of any similar postings, so
please excuse any redundancy here.....
Despite my happiness with my Miyata 1000, I am bothered by its moderately
sluggish behaviour and its ~30 lb weight(with racks, etc). I've been thinking
about getting something a little lighter and more responsive for the 30 - 40
miles/week of training I do between tours, since the thought of popping racks
& fenders off and on depending on the type of riding I'm about to do doesn't
thrill me.
Does anyone have any recommendations or caveats in the sub-$1000 Canadian
(i.e. sub-$700 US) range? My riding consists of ~hour long rides 3 - 4
times a week, but this is likely to increase in the future as I plan to
get involved in time-trials & triathalons (ambitious, eh?). As a
fairly avid tourist I'm not looking for beginner-type advice, just
information about what's available on the market, and what racing bikists
like in their machines. As a subscriber to Bicycling, I am aware of the
recent articles on the subject (not to mention the pending one), so
directing me there won't be of much use.
In particular I'd like to know how owners of the Miyata Pro and Team
feel about these models. The company makes a darn good touring bike & if
their racing models are worth it I'd like to give them my business.
Thanks,
Kevin c__
