If you've ever tried to break a derailleur chain and had the misfortune of pushing the rivet all the way out, here's how you can get it back in without agony, using the Cyclo chain-extracting tool: First, remove the punch from the screw with a pliers. Then put three 1/8" ball bearings in the screw to act as shims. Then put the loose rivet in the screw on top of the bearings. Line the chain link up in the tool, and turn the punch until the rivet is firmly seated in the outer link. Then back off the screw, remove the bearings, replace the punch, and finish the job. By the way, to break a 1/2 x3/32 derailleur chain using the Cyclo tool, turn exactly 6 1/4 turns from the time the punch makes firm contact with the rivet. This will leave just enough rivet in the link to let you "snap" the chain back together for reassembly.
