[net.bicycle] rave: Third eye bike mirror

reid@Cascade.ARPA (10/12/84)

I've been using helmet mirrors for 10 years, and always swore at them
because they vibrated, or came out of adjustment, or were too small, or were
otherwise bogus. But I like to see behind me so I keep using them.

Last week I bought a "Third Eye" brand of helmet mirror for my Bell V1 Pro
helmet (though it looks like it would fit almost anything), and it is just
fantastic. I got it at a local bike shop (Wheelsmith) and they were too busy
to give me any info as to whether it is nationally available. I have never
seen any ads for it.

Ask for it at your favorite bike shop.

Bike Nashbar sells the Third Eye mirror for about $5. Other mail
order folks sell it for $7.

I have been using the Third Eye Bike mirror for several months and I am
happy with it. One of it's claims to fame is that the mirror
surface is larger then those of the past ( visor mirrors, that is )
The main problems that I have had is that 1) it's expensive. 2) it
doesn't stay attached all that well to a helmet. I have a string
to hold it so it won't get lost when it gets bumped off. ( having lost
my first one ). Anyway, I have seen ad's in Bicycling mag for them, so
check it out.

I personally prefer a Mirrycle (probably a trademark). It attaches to
your left brake handle mounting, is steady, doesn't fall off, and is
still conveniently located. It also does not tend to distract my
peripheral vision (which I find helmet-mounted mirrors do). Finally,
I don't have to wear a helmet every time just in order to use a
mirror...
