Sew-ups are a MUST for any competitive racing. Be prepared to spend $18-35 for serious racing sew-ups. Also be prepared to spend at least 1 hour or more fixing a flat in a sew-up. Bike Nashbar is probably the fastest-shipping and most reliable mail-order house. Prices are competitive, but not necessarily the lowest for any given component. Buy an issue of Bicycling magazine and check the ads. Real question: does your Miyata already have a "racing" frame (e.g., butted tubing, "steep" frame geometry)? If not, you're wasting your money on sew-up wheels and tires. If you have a touring frame and standard 27x1 1/4" wheels, a set of 27x1 or 700Cx13-18-mm wheels with lightweight clinchers and tubes would make a real difference. ---Bill Weiss, AT&T Network Systems (hlwpc!wsw) Short Hills x4265
