Hello, I am looking for some suggestions in planning my cycle trip this July. In particular I am starting to think about planning a route and need advice about maps. The last long trip (1.7K miles) I used mostly county maps. I try to avoid state roads and found county roads to be much less traveled as well as usually more scenic. The problem with county maps is they are anywhere from $.50 to $2 a shot and if you are traveling across 8 or 9 states that adds up in a hurry. Especially if are going to the east where the counties tend to be much smaller than in the other areas of the country. That many maps also tends to add up to allot of weight to be carrying along and you also have to keep them dry to keep them legible. So the question is where do I get maps with enough detail (not just interstates and state highways) and not have to pay for it in both dollars and weight???? Oh, by the way the trip is going to be from Chicago to Atlanta for a week long convention and then on to Tampa. I will probably make the return trip via Amtrak. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
