[net.bicycle] opinion on Biopace chainrings

starr@unmvax.UUCP (04/08/85)

I have had a Biopace triple chainring set since approximately August 1984.
I got them for my touring bike since I needed a new set anyway. They have
proven to be very nice for riding at a touring pace (e.g. no 120-rpm
spinning). I would *NOT* like them for racing/fast "sport" riding.

However, the place where they work best is in the dirt. They now reside
on my mountain bike (ATB still doesn't sound right). The triple sizes are
about right (48-38-28) for my style of riding, and the "ellipse" effect,
while not pronounced, is great for grinding up those 1-in-4 fireroad hills.

In summary, I like the Biopace chainrings in a touring or off-road environ-
ment, but not on a racing bike!
