[net.bicycle] Freewheels & chains

wagner@uw-june (Dave Wagner) (04/11/85)

Well, here is a synopsis of the mail I received regarding ultra- vs. normal-
spaced freewheels. Votes ran 2-1 against the ultra (however, the sample size
was only 6).

Some common themes that I observed in the replies:

	- If you do use ultra- freewheels, a Sedisport chain is a MUST.
	- If you use normal freewheels, Uniglide chains make shifting easier;
	  especially when combined with Shimano's twist-tooth freewheel cogs.
	  (On the other hand, I have heard from other sources that the bowed-out
	  side plates on UG chains will cause the chain to stretch out much
	  faster than a normal chain.)
	- The Shimano DeOre XT rear derailleur was highly recommended for
	  coping with difficult shifting situations.

Thanks to all who replied!
