The 7 - 11 Grand Prix finals took place at Colorado Springs July 4 - 6. I attended Friday and Saturday nite and have most of the results. Mens Kilometer Time Trial (killermeter) 1. Hans Glucklich (GDR) 1:02 2. Curtis Harnett (CAN) 1:03 Mens 4000 meter Pursuit 1. Dean Woods (AUS) 4:37.37 2. Steve Hegg (USA) 4:38.0 Mens Match Sprints 1. Lutz Hesslich (GDR) 2. Mike Hubner (GDR) 3. Curtis Harnett (CAN) Mens 40 kilometer Points Race 1. ? (FDG) 2. ? (AUS) 3. Mark Whitehead (USA) Womens 3000 meter Pursuit 1. Rebecca Twig caught Patti Cashman 2. Patti Cashman Womens 20 kilometer Points Race 1. Rebecca Twig (lapped the field) Womens Match Sprints 1. ? (FRA) 2. Connie Pareskeven (USA) The following world records were set at the meet: Men Flying 200 meters Lutz Hesslich (GDR) 10.19 Women Flying 200 meters Connie Pareskeven (USA) 11.37 Men Flying Kilometer Shawn Wallace (GBR) 59.50 I'm sorry that I don't have all of the names of the top places. I lost my program. There were quite a few upsets at the meet. The most notable was the French Women who upset 3 time World Champion Connie Pareskeven in the Womens Match Sprints. None of the US men made it past the quarter finals in the Match Sprints. In the ride for 5th thru 8th it was Mark Gorski, Les Barcheski, Scott Berryman and Nelson Vails. The East Germans won the Kilometer and Match Sprints. Those were the only events they entered. The world record attempts were exciting to watch and the fact that 3 world records were set attests to the fact that the track at Colorado Springs is one of the fastest in the world. Expect a few more records to fall at the World in '86. Mike Walpole
