Mens standings after 12 stages: 1. Bernard Hinault (FRA) 64:50:08 2. Greg Lemond (USA) @ 4:00 3. Stephen Roche (IRE) @ 5:52 4. Sean Kelly (IRE) @ 6:00 5. Steve Bauer (CAN) @ 7:17 6. Niki Ruttimann (SUI) @ 8:05 7. Phil Anderson (AUS) @ 8:09 8. Zoop Zoetemelk (NET) @ 8:25 9. Pascal Simon (FRA) @ 8:50 10. Pierre Bazzo (FRA) @ 8:51 58. Doug Shapiro (USA) @ 37:23 Well folks they've made it into the Alps. The Columbians have shown their Climbing ability by winning the first two alpine stages. Luis Herrera won the 11th stage with Bernie 7 sec behind. Fabio Parra won the 12th stage with Luis Herrera in second. Both of these riders are fairly far down in GC and the field is not letting them get out of sight on the climbs. It looks like Hinault is out to dominate the Tour by finishing in the field in the flat stages, being at the front on the climbs, and smoking everyone in the time trials. Greg Lemond is obviously having a good ride by being in second place. Canadian Steve Bauer is still in 5th and he is wearing the white jersey that denotes the best new rider in the race. Women after 9 stages: 1. Maria Canins (ITA) 19:08:05 2. Jeannie Longo (FRA) @ 13:14 3. Dominique Damiani (FRA) @ 17:19 4. Cecile Odin (FRA) @ 17:24 5. Imelda Chiappa (ITA) @ 17:30 6. Phyllis Hines (USA) @ 18:28 9. Janelle Parks (USA) @ 20:47 Maria Canins, who supposedly retired after the Olympics, has taken a huge lead by winning the last two mountian stages. (I wonder if shes coming to the Coor's Classic?) Maria won the 9th stage by 9 minutes over the second place rider. I think these standings speak for themselves. Mike Walpole
