10 Steve Bauer (CAN) @ 14:57

74 Doug Shapiro (USA) @ 1:39:34

180 starters 144 finishers.

Well Bernie won number 5. It was not with out some contiversy though.
Greg Lemond, Hinault's teammate, was in a breakaway that could have put
him in the lead in the latter mountain stages. Since Stephen Roche was
also in the break, the Team Manager told Lemond not to go up the road
with Roche. This would have put Lemond in the lead and Hinault 3rd.
With Lemond in 2nd Hinault's lead over Roche was greater than what Lemond
would have had over Roche. Lemond followed orders and Hinault won the
race. There is almost no doubt that if Lemond had not rode for Hinault,
Lemond would have won. Hinault said that he will ride for Lemond next
year as Lemond rode for him this year. Steve Bauer of Canada had an
excellent ride finishing 10th. That put 3 riders from La Vie Claire in
the top ten showing who had the strongest team. (Hinault, Lemond and
Bauer all ride for La Vie Claire)

Maria Canins victory speaks for itself. She destroyed everyone in the
mountains. I bet Connie Carpenter is glad she retired and does not have
to race against Maria anymore.
