[net.bicycle] Race Across America News

alan@mtxinu.UUCP (Alan Tobey) (07/18/85)

In the interest of decreasing redundant netnews traffic,
this is an advance announcement that Mt Xinu will be posting
daily reports on the progress and results of the Race Across
America (RAAM), which begins in Huntington Beach, Calif., on
Sunday, July 21 and ends in Atlantic City 10-12 days later.

Mt Xinu is sponsoring Elaine Mariolle, one of three women
expected to start in a field of 25-30. We'll hear from her
support crew twice a day with news from one point on the route
and will have at least daily reports from RAAM officialdom.

This year's route is southerly -- Albuquerque, Amarillo,
Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Blue Ridge,
Roanoke -- and a bit longer at 3088 miles than last year.
Both men's and women's divisions are expected to be
competitive, with no clear single favorites. Stay tuned...

As well as Elaines attempt at the crossing, we at Paul's Bike Shop
here in Urbana are supporting Susan Notorangelo in her attempt to maintain
the title of the World's Foremost Women's Ultra-marathon cyclist and also her
title of undefeated women's champion of RAAM.

Paul's Bike Shop is also an official information center for RAAM updates.

We congratulate everyone involved with the Race Across AMerica and give our
best regards to all the riders and their support crews. This is the ultimate
bike race. Good luck to all the racers.

Updates may be found here as the race continues.
