Prologue Time Trial 8/3 1. Ron Kiefel (7-Eleven) 3:05.3 2. Andrew Hampsten (Levis-Raleigh) 3:10.7 3. Greg Lemond (Red Zinger) 3:11.2 4. Olaf Jentzsch (E. Germany) 3:11.9 5. Didier Gaarcia (Peugeot Pro) 3:12.3 This marks the 3rd year in a row that Ron Kiefel has won the prologue time trial. Bernard Hinault had mechanical difficulities and finished 64th with a time of 3:31.6. Fisherman's Wharf Criterium 8/4 1. Alex Stedia (7-Eleven) 1:00:25 2. Greg Lemond (Red Zinger) same time 3. Jaanus Kuum (Schwinn) st. 4. Doug Shapiro (7-Eleven) st. 5. Davis Phinney (7-Eleven) st. Many comments were made about this course about how dangerous it was. Hinault was particully unimpressed and Davis Phinney said it was the most dangerous course he had ever riden. 75 riders recieved the same time. Sonoma - Sacramento Road Race 8/5 1. Alex ddia (7-Eleven) @ 2:35 The Break containing Greg Lemond, Steve Bauer, Doug Shapiro and Andy Hampsten went 11 miles into the race. When Bauer went for a prime in Davis, CA Lemond told him to keep going. Andy Hampsten crashed in the last 10 miles and finished with the main pack. Sacramento Criterium 8/5 1. Davis finally wins a stage and gets interviewed by Connie. As in the past Ron Kiefel gave Davis the leadout. Greg Lemond had his wheel but could not come around. General Classification 1.
