Men: In fridays race at Colorado National Monument (Tour of the moon) four riders got away from the field. (Olaf Jentzsch, Eric Solomon, Andy Hampsten and Greg Lemond. In the sprint Olaf Jentzsch was on the left with Greg Lemond and Andy Hampsten on the right. Andy was starting to come around Lemond when Jentzsch cut across the road and cut them both off. First they gave the win to Lemond, then they gave it back to Jentzsch. Then they took away the time bonuses from Jentzsch and Lemond. Then the gave Lemonds time bonus back. In a televised interview Lemond said that this is the reason that he did not want to come to this race. He said, "This is a **U.S.C.F** race and **U.S.C.F.** officials are a bunch of FLAKES". Raul Alcala (Denti) @ :24 In saturdays Circuit Race in Aspen Thurlow Rogers broke away 10 laps into the race and soloed for the next 10 laps. He was joined by Dan Radtke and Sergei Voronin. Jeff Pierce (Schwinn) @ :38 As usual the Vail Criterium was very fast. About 5 laps into the race Davis Phinney, Steve Bauer and Sterling McBride got away and opened a lead of about 48 seconds. About halfway thru the race a chase group formed and eventually cought the break. This was unacceptable to the Red Zinger team and in five laps Bernard Hinault towed what was left of the field up to the break. With 10 to go Bruce Whitesel tried to solo to the finish. With 4 laps remaining Bob Roll jumped up to Whitesel and went right past him. This turned out to be the winning move. Stephane Guay outsprinted Davis Phinney for 2nd. Vail Criterium 1.
