[net.bicycle] RAAM Riding Times and Boyer's Win

grt@twitch.UUCP ( G.R.Tomasevich) (08/02/85)

One piece of information I would like to see is how much time each rider spent
on the bike. Because of his fitness, I expect Boyer spent significantly less
time than the others and went faster. As correctly noted, by Mike Walpole I
think, Boyer's 1.6% winning margin is irrelevant. A competitor goes only as
hard as necessary to win. Why bother overdoing it, unless it is a record
attempt. I imagine Boyer could have gone even faster. It seems that most
riders train for RAAM by conditioning for maximum riding time rather than speed.

Bye the way, you guys can't spell. It is Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil.

Do you think that these guys have ever heard of Fausto Coppi?
