[net.bicycle] A QUESTION OF FRAMES

ksmith@katadn.DEC (10/14/85)

I am in the market for a racing frame. Most of my needs would be met by a
road-frame, as I already have a Gios Torino that meets my needs for time
trials and criteriums. I would like something that is light, stable, (ability
to ride "hands-off") responsive, and relatively stiff. (to reduce power loss)
One other thing that comes to mind is that I would like to keep frame
maintenance costs and headaches to a minimum. (More time to ride, and more
money for tires!)PS....Long-lasting would be nice too!

So far, I have found the Medici line to be very attractive, as the quality of
workmanship seems to be great, and the paint is the best I've seen. Also,
the Vitus frames are attractive. They look good, don't chip or rust etc.,
and aren't any more susceptible to dents or breaks than steel.

I guess my question is whether the aluminum composite frames, or the carbon-
fiber composite frames are too flexible for a person of my size. (5'11" &
175 to 180 lbs.) Also, if the Vitus frames are adviseable, then which one?
(Duralinox-aluminum tubes, Plus-carbone 3 - main tubes/carbon fiber, rest
aluminum, or Plus-carbone 7 - all tubes/carbon fiber) Can Vitus frames be
purchased in the U.S.?

The Medici Pro-Strada would probably meet most of my needs, but if one of
the Vitus frames could cut it as far as stiffness goes, then ALL my needs
would probably be met.

Your replies can be either posted to the net, or sent directly to me, in which
case, I would be glad to post a summarization. Thanks.
