[net.bicycle] Dirty Water Bottles...

mancello@acf4.UUCP (Mr. Mancello) (11/06/85)

I currently use a Blackburn bottle cage mounted on the down tube. My water
bottles always get very dirty from the coating on the cage. I have used other
cages, and this problem always persists. It seems that while the bike is
in motion, the bottle rubs against the cage causing the coating to rub off
onto the bottle. The markings are difficult to get off of the bottle plus
the decal on the bottle comes off when I have to scrub the bottle to remove
the markings. Has anyone had similar problems, and are there any cages which
do not mark up the bottle?

*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR DIRTY WATER BOTTLE ***

Come on are you in a fashion show or what? You can get a sock and
wrap it around the bottle during the times you are training and you
know no one else will see it. You can get one of those velcro
Cannondale water bottles and cages and this will solve your problem,
but you will have to get rid of your old cage and bottle. I have a
filfthy water bottle that is clean around the mouth piece and inside,
I could care less about what the container looks like other than
maybe color and then it doesn't matter. I would suggest you using
a cheap bottle for your training rides and then when you are in
a ride or race that you want to look good in use your nice bottle.

I don't buy items for their looks usually but because of their
durability and quality. I am into touring cycling so I need some-
thing I can depend on when I am miles away from home and not have to
worry if the decal comes off.

Does anyone have any suggestions now that the weather is getting cool
and cycling outside becomes a little more uncomfortable? I am looking
for weight training techniques for really my whole body because I am
a member of a spa here. I am seriously thinking of starting racing
next season and making touring take 2nd seat. Does anyone have any
suggestions for a beginner racer? Any books for women racers? Most
magazines seem to cover men because it is a sport dominated by men.
For you female cyclists you may want to subscribe to:

		"Women's Sports And Fitness"
		P.O. Box 612
		Holmes, Pa. 19043
		cost: 1 year $12.00

This magazine has articles on all types of sports for women and
cycling is covered as well every month. This is the closest thing
to a womens cycling magazine that I have found and it ain't much.
Susan Notorangelo is in this months issue and she has started a year
old project called: Women in Cycling: formed to lobby to make changes
in the bicycling industry. YEAH!!!!! I have nothing againt male
cyclists I think women need to make a name in this sport as well
and have in the past few years. But I think local participation
is needed as well. Cycling is wonderful and most anyone can do it
just ask me. It build confidence, relaxes you against stress, gets
you involved with other people and it is less stressful than
running or aerobics.

Also I need suggestions for news letters. I am going to take
over the newsletter for my bike club and probably use the VAX to do it
on. I would love it if any of you could send me your address or better
yet mail me one of your newsletters from your club. I will even send
you a self addressed stamped envelope so you wan't have to pay postage.
I am wanting to see what other clubs do with their newsletters. Have
any of you ever done a newsletter for your bike club, or better yet,
done it on the VAX or UNIX based system?
