Whatever happened to Hollywood's latest and greatest bicycle racing film, American Flyers? Did it die at the box office? It was supposed to be released in coordination with the Coors Bicycle Classic, but I never saw it at any local theater (I saw a special screening). --Gordon Hamachi

I saw it in the short time it played here in New York. I liked it quite a bit, but looking back at it, I realize that it had far more in the way of race scenes than in the way of real dramatic content. I don't know what it could have offered for someone who is not an avid fan of the sport. Tom Reingold

American Flyers never flew into my town. What happened? --Becky Bates

American Flyers ran here in the Chicago Area for almost 2 months (various theaters). Maybe the box wasn't big enough for the distributor to release in smaller markets. (The night I saw it, though, there might have been 10 seats left in a pretty good-sized barn.) I've never seen it in the listings in the San Francisco Area which makes me really wonder about the market research that went into the distribution of the film. The start of the Coors was here this year and this is probably the second most cycling and racing conscious area of the country (Colorado being first). If it would succeed anywhere it would be here.
