The United States Cycling Federation(USCF) has lost its insurance carrier and until it can find a new one, it has stopped issuing sanctions for the 1986 season. As you will remember, the USCF passed its hard shell helmet rule in an attempt to retain its carrier but, apparently this has failed. Of course, this only affects amateur races and all of the best U.S. racers are pros and will be spending the majority of their time racing in Europe(first races are in early February). The Coors Classic is now pro and will hopefully not be affected (this holds for the men, I don't know about the woman's race-- but, after last years women's snoozer who cares). Looks like the National Park Service wants to keep the Coors Classic from using the Tour of the Moon course(Grand Junction, CO). Seems that they don't like the grafitti painted on the roads. BTW, the rather extensive painting on the Morgul-Bismark Course that myself and several others deny doing is all but gone though our works of art have been featured in several newspapers and cycling rags. 1986 plans call for the men doing 3 laps of the Tour of the Moon, we shall see! Alexi Grewal is back. Apparently, his heppatitus(sp) rumours were just that. He is living and training in Boulder, CO and will ride in Europe for 7-Eleven and domestically for his old Aspen-Dia Compe club which is based out of Denver and which his younger brother, Ranjeet, also rides for. Panasonic Raliegh has an option on him for the 1987 season so we will have to see what develops. Bruce Hildenbrand ihnp4!druhi!bhilden
