CONSORTEL, a consortium of fifty colleges, universities and other interested non-profit organizations is establishing a prototype Canada-wide X.25 PSP network for the exchange of NAPLPS and telematics materials, using sophisticated distributed messaging software developed at U.B.C. CONSORTEL is seeking a programmer/technician to assist in the implementation and operation of this network on a contractual basis starting immediately. The programmer/technician will be based in Vancouver, and will be expected to work closely with the EAN and CDNNET projects in the Department of Computer Science at U.B.C. His or her duties will include extending the EAN software to allow the inclusion of NAPLPS messages, distributing the software to major and minor nodes of the network (which will be largely VAX/UNIX (4.2 BSD) and VAX/VMS sites during the prototype phase) and assisting (mainly by phone and electronic mail) with the installation and maintenance of the software. A good knowledge of UNIX and 'C' is essential, as are good communication skills. A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is desirable and knowledge of NAPLPS would be an asset. Applications from Graduate Students, on a part-time basis, will be considered. Please send your resume, in confidence, to: Roger Hart CONSORTEL 235-560 Johnson Street Victoria B.C.
