MACHINE VISION & GRAPHICS Software Research and Development Opportunity HYMARC, located in Ottawa, is engaged in the development of a novel laser-based system for the near-realtime capture of 3D data for applications in CAD/CAM, robot vision, medicine, etc. A variety of software techniques are being developed to allow the data to be corrected and modified, including an interactive graphics editor. HYMARC is working closely with the Intelligent Systems Laboratory of the NRC in developing new products and techniques. The researcher will have access to a VAX 11/780, a VAX 11/750, several micro processors, and several graphic display devices, including an Adage 3000 color display device. The initial goal is to refine a VAX-based prototype 3D interactive graphics surface editor and then transfer this capability to a work station environment. Operating systems for the development environment are VAX/VMS and VAX/UNITY (a unix emulator); although the work station has yet to be selected, an IBM PC/AT running MSDOS is in use. The languages presently in use are FORTRAN 77, C, and Assembler. The candidate should have a strong computer science background, preferably with several years of relevant experience, be self motivated and be able to work with minimum supervision. Experience with graphics or image processing would be an asset. A Canadian security clearance may be required.
