Microtel Pacific Research requires a UNIX(*) Systems Manager/programmer.

MPR is a research and development company specializing in communications
equipment. The product range includes both hardware and software
components of digital switching and transmission systems, satellite
communications, network management systems and microelectronics.

The Computer Services department manages the general purpose computing
resources for the company. These resources include: 2 VAX 11/780's running
BSD 4.2 UNIX, 2 MicroVAX II's running ULTRIX 1.2 (UNIX), a VAX 11/750
running VMS 3.5, 3 MicroVAX II's running VMS 4.2, an 8200 running VMS 4.2,
an Apollo Domain ring with about 25 nodes, and a Data General MV 8000 running
AOS/VS and an Eclipse 250 running AOS.

Duties of the UNIX System Manager are the management and customization of
UNIX (currently 4.2 BSD and Ultrix) running in a production mode in VAXes
and MicroVAXes in a networked environment. We have modified the operating
system to meet our needs and will do so again if required.

Providing consulting for system users is an important part of the job.
Many routine duties, such as system accounting, have been automated or are
handled by other personnel.

Qualifications are:
o A broad and deep understanding of several versions of UNIX, in
particular 4.2 BSD, Ultrix and System V.
o Ability to deal with difficult questions from knowledgable users.

Any of the following would be an asset:
  o Networking (particularly LAN) experience.
o Experience with DEC operating systems.
