The Information Utility is a project dealing with structured and unstructured information in a distributed environment, primarily for the library market. We are building an open system using real and de-facto standards. Our development platform environment consists of the Unix operating system, relational DBMS, OSI and TCP/IP communications, augmented by a fourth generation language development system. Implementation is in 'C' and our 4GL. We are looking for a few special people. Database group -------------- position 1: An RDBMS expert with working knowledge of the internals of one of INGRES, ORACLE, UNIFY, etc. Will be making design and architectual decisions. position 2: RDBMS team member with a practical knowledge of one of the above RDBMSs and SQL. Will be responsible for DBMS enhancement and extensions, consulting, and DBMS software development. Distributed Directory Systems group ----------------------------------- 4 positions available: 2 senior, 2 junior Capable of specifying requirements, design and implementation. Knowledge of any of the following is an asset: OSI communications, network management, RDBMS, distributed DBMS, library systems (e.g. OCLC, Linked Systems Project), library applications. An M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computer science or equivalent degree is required for the senior positions. Communications group -------------------- 1 position: knowledge of LAN and WAN communications, Unix communications, TCP/IP, OSI protocols, X.400, fault tolerant distributed systems and library systems. Operating System & Applications Environment group ------------------------------------------------- 2 positions available Experience with design and implementation of forms systems, 4GL's, CASE and design tools. Knowledge of the following would be an asset: Workstations, Distributed systems, WIMPs, X-Windows and 3-Schema architectures.
