Job Title: RTE Operating System Designer

Qualifications:  REQUIRED
                 --------

                 - At least a Bachelor's Degree in Electical Engineering
                   (with a solid understanding of software design, with
                   particular emphasis on operating systems) or at least
                   a Bachelor's Degree in Computing Science (with a strong
                   background in operating systems design).

                 - Proficiency in programming with C-Language under UNIX and
                   in creating programs at assembly language level.

                 - Experience in hard-ware related issues such the writing
                   of drivers for disk-drives, printers and communication
                   interfaces.

                 - Commitment, initiative and self motivation.

                 - Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.

                 - Fluency in written and spoken English.


                 PREFERRED
                 ---------

                 - Hands-on experience in the development of real time
                   environment software.  (The job will require the incumbent
                   to specify, design and write efficient, fast running and
                   time critical codes.)

                 - Good knowledge of and experience with data communication
                   protocols, including BOP, COP, Bisync, Async, etc.

                 - Understanding of the architecture of microprocessors.

                 - Experience with,
                   - System III and BSD4.2/4.3 UNIX operating systems.
                   - the MC68000 CPU and the VME-bus architecture.


Specific Duties:  Conceive, design, code, modify and maintain IDACOM's
                  proprietary real time environment operating system - a basic
                  component of IDACOM's communication protocol testing
                  products.


Job Status: First six months probationary, with prospects of permanency.


Working Conditions:  Thirty seven and a half hour weeks.
                     Laboratory/office R&D type environment.


Starting Salary Range:  $2100.00 to $2300.00 per month (depending on
                        experience).

The Software Systems Group at Simon Fraser University has an
immediate  opening  for an experienced Systems Analyst.  The
Software Systems Group manages the design, development,  and
support  of computing facilities for the Laboratory for Com-
puter and Communications Research (LCCR) and the  School  of
Computing Science (School).  The facilities included:

o 50 SUN fileservers/workstations,
o 2 Symbolics-3650,
o 2 Iris-2400,
o 1 MicroVAX-II,
o 1 LMI Lambda 2x2+ LISP machine,
o 1 IIS Model 75/F4 display processor,
o and numerous microcomputers.

The successful candiate will have:

o A minimum of a B.Sc. in Computing Science, or related dis-
  cipline with a strong background in Computing Science.
o Proficiency in at least three of the following categories:
  electronic  mail systems, text/word processing technology,
  graphics utilities, VLSI CAD tools, operating  system  and
  distributing  computing  concepts, AI technology, software
  engineering methodologies and programming languages.
o A minimum of two years systems and application programming
  experience  in  a UNIX environment, and one year's experi-
  ence in systems administration, preferably  in  a  distri-
  buted  computing  environment with SUN Microsystem and DEC
  equipment.
o Excellent interpersonal, written and  oral  communications
  skills.
o Ability to cope effectively with  unexpected  problems  or
  events,   prioritize  his/her  activities  and  work  with
  minimal supervision.
o Ability to work effectively in  a  group  environment  and
  participate in group planning and technical discussions.
