Alias Research Inc., specializing in the development of 3D computer graphics software products for the design and entertainment markets is looking to fill the position of SYSTEMS DESIGNER for the SmartWare Project. A description of the position follows: Reports to Director, 3D Design. Responsibilities: The Systems Designer is the architect for the software products of the SmartWare product line (including interactive 3D modeling, animation, rendering and data transfer) which run on diverse hardware platforms and potentially diverse software environments. The Systems Designer is responsible for defining, implementing and managing the software engineering methods and environment for developing these products, such that they achieve and maintain a high level of quality, testability, portability and maintainability. Tasks: Specific tasks of the System Designer include: - defines system module decomposition - defines and manages the interface to hardware and software environment - investigates, acquires or develops and maintains toolkits - defines coding practices and styles - defines, develops and manages CASE tools including a software repository - develops test plans and supervises overall testing activity - contributes to the product definition Supervision: The Systems Designer directly supervises team members (User Interface Software Designer and Software Environment and Utility Library Programmer) in conducting research and development of 3D graphics software systems. Reviews specifications of work to be performed by team and, in close communication with the team members, estimates, schedules and assigns that work among the team members. The Systems Designer supervises all development staff in aspects relating to software engineering and coordinates and supervises all staff involved in testing the product. Communication/Interaction With Other Groups: Described in terms of a Supplier / Client relationship model, the Systems Designer is the supplier to the application developers for the CASE environment and toolkit facilities. The Systems Designer is the client to the application developers in the areas of module design and testing. Experience: This position requires a person with a minimum of 3 years of experience related to software systems design, UIMS and UI Toolkits and software development methodologies. Familiarity with personal computer software architectures and environments (especially, Mac II - MacApp and IBM PS/2 - Presentation Manager and OS/2), as well as OSF/Motif and 4Sight is essential.
