[can.jobs] Systems Administrator at SoftQuad Inc.

bud@sq.sq.com (Bud Greasley) (12/14/89)

SoftQuad Inc., the leader in UNIX-based production publishing software,
needs a system administrator to look after a network of a dozen
UNIX, MacIntosh and other small computers with a number of
ascii terminals and a variety of laser printers.

We are accepting applications from both experienced UNIX system
administrators and experienced unix users who wish to develop their
system administrator skills. The ability to write device drivers is
not a necessary skill for this position.

It's no exaggeration to say that the most important personal skills are
persistence, organization, responsibility, tact, and the ability to
understand and solve new problems. If you can keep yourself
organized, work well despite interruptions, aren't afraid to wield a
screwdriver occasionally, and can do so without destroying hardware, send me
your resume.

As the UNIX system administrator you will be responsible for:
	- monitoring system security
	- monitoring disk space and usage
	- monitoring network and dialup connections
	- connecting and debugging terminal and printer connections
	- installing software and hardware upgrades
	- writing and debugging printer interfaces and other
	  system interface software
	- worrying about electronic mail (B.S. in Mailer Science
	  optional) and news
	- evaluating vendor offerings, selecting vendors, and interacting
	  with them to purchase equipment.
	- troubleshooting all problems related to systems, including
calling vendors for service as needed

Experience and education are important, but not so much as attitude.
