JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:         Research Systems Programmer

STARTING DATE: 1 February 1990, or as soon as possible after that date

The Dynamic Graphics Project of the Computer Systems Research Institute
and the Computer Science Department of the University of Toronto
is looking for a research systems programmer to work with faculty in
carrying out and coordinating the development of
a video-enhanced computer supported cooperative work system.
The project is being directed by Marilyn Mantei, Ron Baecker, and Bill Buxton.

Duties will include, but not be limited to,
the purchase and acquisition of hardware and software to support the project;
the installation of the necessary hardware and software base;
designing, developing, debugging and maintaining the project's software;
interfacing and developing computer control mechanisms
for the audio and video hardware; 
assisting in working with industrial collaborators and visitors and 
helping with grant related activities;
providing support to graduate students and postdocs
working on CSCW related projects;
and, as needed,
assisting with general lab software and hardware chores. 

The applicant should possess a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science
or Electrical Engineering, and have at least three years programming experience
or two years work experience in software development.
This position requires expertise in systems programming and networking,
a knowledge of audio and video hardware and interfacing,
experience in user interface design,
and good oral and written communication skills.
Experience in administration and project management are a strong plus,
as are a background in Macintosh programming, C++ or MacApp.

Salary $35K-$45K (plus excellent fringe benefits) depending on experience.
