COMPUTING FACILITIES MANAGER

The Computing Facilities Manager will be responsible for the comprehensive
and integrated development of all departmental computing facilities, and
will manage a major, sustained expansion in teaching and research resources.
Responsibilities include strategic long-term planning, the integration of
four new major research labs and two teaching labs into existing networks,
designing the overall technical environment of new facilities, the design
and customizing of software, market research, analysis and recommendation
of several million dollars worth of highly specialized state-of-the-art
computer equipment for research and teaching purposes, and supervision of
a team of technical professionals.

This is a key management role, requiring the incumbent to operate at
policy and decision-making levels.  The position requires broad technical
experience and ability, strong management skills, excellent interpersonal
and communication skills and the ability to make decisions independently
as well as in consultation with faculty members.  An advanced degree and
experience in distributed processing would be desirable.

The appointment will be effective April 1, 1990.  Salary will be
