[net.micro.16k] Let's change the name

corbin@encore.UUCP (Steve Corbin) (05/11/86)

Well, I'm another one who thought this group was for discussion of
computers with 16k RAM. I have been designing with the National 32000
series for over 2 years and have never read this group until last week.
My vote is for :

	net.micro.ns32k

Let's NOT change the name! Unfortunately there are a number of groups
where the group name *could* be confused with something else. After
much heated discussion (started every year or so by the newcomers), the
consensus is to leave them unchanged.

As for thinking that 16k stands for machines with 16k RAM chips... I
thought that net.columbia was for the Columbia River, net.micro for the
microscope, net.micro.68k for microscopes with 68k RAM chips :-) , etc...
Also, everyone seems to be proposing net.micro.ns32k, why not
net.micro.ti32k??? or ... .32k (to be changed next week to ????)?

PLEASE read the group listing that is posted to net.announce.newusers (or
mod.newlists?). From that you'd learn what net.micro.16k is about and
what the proper group is to post the 'let's change the name' articles to.

Nothing personal folks... but I'm tired of swizzling the "active" file
on 6 machines for no good reason.
