Well, the replies have come in, and the responses have been overwhelmingly in favor of posting hints, fixes, and goodies. There follows the first in a series of notes on help with Smalltalk. These notes are written with the PS interpreter in mind, but most notes in the series generally apply to other interpreters as well, notably the well-known "bs" Berkeley Smalltalk. Something of an apology: the notes will contain copyright notices. I hope the notices do not offend anyone, but I have been sensitized to the issues surrounding copyright and posting on netnews. I intend the postings to benefit individuals on the net (else why would I be posting?), but do not intend for someone else to profit from my investment of effort. The copyright notices are worded with this in mind. (May the effect be what was intended.) cheers, txr

One more thing, which I forgot to say in my previous note. Several people have promised to post fixes and goodies of their own, in response to my postings. To this I say, Great! Let's get things cooking on this news group, and get a real usenet smalltalk community going. Those of you who promised postings -- the UNC smalltalk community looks forward to reading them. The rest of you who responded -- let's see some stuff from you all as well. A goodie need not be big, complicated, or difficult, in order to be useful. (A goodie which I frequently find useful -- coming soon -- is just two lines of code!) cheers, txr
