[can.ai] Canadian AI

vkt@dciem.UUCP (Vin Taylor) (04/02/85)

Having subscribed to this newsgroup to learn what (if anything)
is interesting in AI in the Canadian Research community, and having
been greeted with almost total silence except for political
dissertations in the past two days, I must conclude that there is
no newsworthy AI related work being pursued within sound of this
net.

Please would you try to prove me wrong.

Dear Mr. Taylor

Many people doing AI research in Canada stay here because they can avoid
doing any defense related research. That's why the SDI topic is of such
interest. We needn't prove you are wrong...we all know that.

The winter 1985 issue of AI Magazine (published by AAAI) has a pretty detailed article on
AI in Canada.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the point of Mr. Taylor's
article was that it would be nice to see a bit of discussion about what
is happening in Canadian AI (seeing as that's what the name of this newsgroup
seems to be about). Admittedly, the SDI question is interesting, etc., but
it isn't really discussion about Canadian AI - it is more politics than
anything else.
I would like to second Mr. Taylor's plea for some discussion of AI on this
net, and not just debate about SDI (after all, this isn't net.SDI or can.SDI).
How about it?
