********* UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS ****** ANNEALING PARSER PROJECT ********* (re-advertisement) Applications are invited for a post of SOFTWARE ASSISTANT / ENGINEER, to work on a project developing a parser for unrestricted English using the connexionist technique of simulated annealing (as described in the Alvey IKBS Mailshot IKBS/MS 9/86 item 3.3). The project (funded by the Speech Research Unit) is supervised by Professor Geoffrey Sampson of the Linguistics and Phonetics Department (where the post will be tenable) and Eric Atwell of the Computer Studies Department. The person appointed will be working on a SUN Workstation dedicated to his/her use. Candidates should have a good honours degree; experience with natural language analysis, statistical techniques, and/or programming in a Unix environment will be advantages but are not essential. The post is for a fixed term of up to 3 years. Starting salary will be within the range #7055 to #9495 (under review) on the O/R IB or IA Grades, according to age, qualifications and experience.
