[net.bugs.usg] Sys V 5.3 vs 2.0

chris@gargoyle.UChicago.UUCP (Chris Johnston) (03/18/85)

ok can some kind soul tell me what Sys V 5.3 is? I have it on my 3b5.
Naturally send mail rather than bothering net with such trivia.

p.s. does anyone know of tcp/ip for SysV 3b5?

jbn@wdl1.UUCP (03/20/85)

IP/TCP is now available for system V via the Communications Machinery
Corporation intelligent Ethernet controller. CMC sells the UNIBUS card
for $3900 (quantity 1), and for $400 extra you get IP, TCP, FTP, SMTP,
TELNET, UDP, ARP, a system V driver (M68000-oriented, but could be ported
easily), psuedo-tty code, and socket code. We use it in a non-UNIX
environment, so we can't speak for the workability of the thing under UNIX,
but all the right parts seem to be there. IP, TCP, ARP, and the Ethernet
protocol are all performed in the 12Mhz M68000 on the board. CMC claims
FTP performance of 1Mb/sec.
