Folks in net.politics may believe that Nancy Reagan will be our next
President, but I have word from Tom Gill to the contrary. This is from
"Tom Gill Predicts," Vol. 7 # 1, Oct. 27, 1984:
The election campain is winding down, and once again it's time for Tom
Gill to make his prognostications for events political and nonpolitical in
the near future. Remember, Tom correctly predicted Ronald Reagan's
victory in the 1980 election, and the Republican grab of the Senate.
1. RONALD REAGAN will be re-elected over WALTER MONDALE, 55 percent to 44
percent.
2. Before her husband's term in office is over, NANCY REAGAN will pass
away.
3. In 1988, the Democratic party will nominate MARIO CUOMO for President,
with GARY HART as his running mate.
4. GERALDINE FERRARO, after losing the Vice-Presidential election with her
running mate Fritz (who will not return to politics on an active level,
unless a Democrat is elected President in 1988 or 1992, upon which he
will be appointed Ambassador to either Britain, Canada or the Soviet
Union) will attempt to run for Senator. She will lose. However, when
Gov. Cuomo leaves office to enter the Presidential race, "Gerry" will
seize the opportunity to run for the Governorship. She will succeed
and serve two distinguished terms.
5. If the Democrats win the Presidency in 1988 (odds in their favor now,
says TG), they will make a bold and striking move to regain respect for
the U.S.A. in Third World nations by nominating a charismatic JESSE
JACKSON as Ambassador to the United Nations. He will turn out to be a
dynamic and respected spokesman that succeeds in gaining respect for
our nation's principles in the international forum, while conservatives
sit idly by fond in the knowledge that ol' Jesse can orate on ad
nauseum in that useless Commie-pit, the U.N.
6. The Republicans in 1988, after a bitter primary battle involving GEORGE
BUSH, HOWARD BAKER and others in the Presidential race, will make an
ingenious compromise at the convention and make history even greater
than the Demos did in 1984 by nominating the first husband-and-wife
team to ever run for the White House, ROBERT and LIZ DOLE. They will
have delusions of a four-term "Dole Dynasty" and promise to switch
roles every other term, giving the nation the solid prospect of the
opportunity to vote in its first woman President in 1992. This is
likely to be a bit too much for the voters to stomach, however.
