From: harry@ucbarpa (Harry I. Rubin) (from the San Francisco Chronicle, Sunday August 4, 1985) WASHINGTON - A federal judge said he has changed his mind and wants the Bell System put back the way it used to be. A parade of witnesses has testified to abuses since the break-up, ranging from threats and harassment when they couldn't decide which long-distance carrier to use, to a Kansas widow with $9 in phone charges and a bill 113 pages long that a team of federal auditors couldn't understand. (Really, it is from the Chronicle! Oh, all right, I admit it. Although it really is in the paper, it is in a humour column about amazing changes of mind - like Coke, & Reagan summit with Russians - and more second thoughts the columnist thinks we might see.)
